Touchdown Shutdown
Founded by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, After-School All-Stars is one of the largest national organizations that provides comprehensive programming to middle school children in thirteen cities across the country. Through donated funds ASAS has had the opportunity to offer engaging activities to over 72,000 kids annually. The programs are designed to improve the participants’ lives by nurturing their minds, bodies, and spirits through incorporating academic support, enrichment, and health and physical fitness. ASAS, a 501 (C) 3 organization, strives to offer a place to keep children safe and help them achieve in school and in life. We focus on providing today’s at-risk youth with after-school opportunities to keep them safe during the high-risk hours of 3 to 6pm, when they are more likely to drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes and engage in sexual activity. With the help of donated dollars, After-School All-Stars aims to give kids a chance to reach their full potential academically, socially and in school. This year, ASAS will be expanding its team of athletes from various NFL teams. Each player will pledge $1,000 per sack or $100 per tackle, while national and local sponsors will match the athletes’ donations. Participating players will have the chance to interact with the inter-city youth in their community, while contributing to the funding of after-school programming to existing and additional cities. Athletes and donors alike will have the chance to greatly impact their communities by participating in this once in a lifetime opportunity. |
