Biography
Entering the NFL three years ago in 2006, DeMeco Ryans has already established himself as one of the league’s premier linebackers. Drafted by the Houston Texans in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft, Ryans made an immediate impact on the team’s defense and earned himself the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. In just three seasons with the Texans, DeMeco as recorded impressive numbers with just under 400 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and two interceptions. In addition, Ryans’ performance during the 2007 season earned him All-Pro Honors and a trip to the Pro Bowl. Born and raised in Bessemer, Alabama, Ryans stayed close to home during his college years and attended the University of Alabama. Here, DeMeco emerged as one of the nation’s top collegiate linebackers. In 2005, Ryans was selected as the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Year and chosen as a Consensus All-American. Clearly, DeMeco Ryans is no stranger to success, yet he has always found time to give back to the community and made it one of his top priorities. To further his efforts, Ryans has now joined forces with the Touchdown Shutdown Program to benefit After-School All-Stars and there is no doubt that he will continue to make a difference both on and off the field.
